The Hayfield football team held off Southland 26-23 in a regular season finale Wednesday night.
Drew Olive threw for 117 yards and a pair of TDs for Hayfield (3-5 overall) in the win and Morgen Moreno ran for 117 yards as he had 62 receiving yards and one TD.
Southland (3-5 overall) had a late drive stall out due to a holding penalty in the loss.
“We just couldn’t stop them off tackle,” Southland head coach Shawn Kennedy said. “I felt that Hayfield has one of the best offensive and defensive lines that we’ve faced all year. They’re big, they’re strong and they’re athletic.”
Both teams will open the Section 1A playoffs 7 p.m. Tuesday.
