The Shooting Star Trail is set to pedal a little closer to Austin on Tuesday.

The Mower County board is scheduled to accept a bid to construct the trail along Highway 56 from County Roads 52 to 58 during its 8:30 a.m. meeting.

For several years, trail enthusiasts have been working to get the trail to Austin, and those efforts should take a step forward Tuesday.

The trail will leave Rose Creek and run along State Highway 56 before jutting west as a bike lane on County Road 58 and then turning north on 28th Street to connect to Austin near the Austin Country Club.

In other business, the board is set to vote on two more tax abatements through the Austin Housing Initiative, discuss a United Way of Mower County Healthy Families America grant opportunity, hear community health updates and more.
