Carmen M. Matter, 86, of Lyle, Minnesota died Monday, June 27, 2016, at Adams Health Care Center.

Carmen Marian was born Oct. 17, 1929, in Denison, Iowa, to Ben and Edna (Baker) Kolls. Carmen graduated from Albert Lea High School. On Oct. 6, 1946, she was united in marriage to Floyd Joseph Matter Sr. in Albert Lea, Minnesota. They resided in Hollandale and farmed until 1958 when they moved to Lyle. From 1962 to 1982 Carmen worked as a waitress for various Austin area restaurants including the Railway Café, Rose Room, Watts Truck Stop and Country Kitchen. From 1982 to 2002 they owned and operated Matter Crossflags Center, traveling to stock car races throughout the Midwest in their motorhome. For 21 years, Carmen and Floyd enjoyed spending their winters in Rockport, Texas. Carmen was a longtime member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle where she was active in her Circle and W.E.L.C.A. She enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening, organizing photograph books, making quilts for grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and most of all time spent with her family.

Survivors include her sons, Floyd J. Matter Jr. of Austin, Minnesota, Robert Matter and special friend Pam Hatfield of Glenville, Minnesota, and Ricky Matter of Lyle; three grandchildren, Malissa (Mike) Schnoor, Brigett (Jason) Gorder and Shane Matter; four great-grandchildren, Veronica, Jazzten, Tyson, Ava; sisters-in-law, Virginia (Bill) Coburn of Eagle, Idaho, Lois (Bill) Godeke of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Alice Cox of Lake City, Betty Veldman of Austin, Peggy Matter of Woodburn, Oregon; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ben and Edna Kolls; husband Floyd on July 7, 2005; brothers-in-law, Bud Matter, Richard Veldman and Harold (Pat) Veldman.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle with Pastor Richard Hegal officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the church prior to the service. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Memorials in Carmen’s memory may be directed to Lyle Cancer or Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.
