A car is a total loss after an engine fire started in the engine compartment.

At about 11:09 a.m. on Friday, Austin police officers and the Austin Fire Department responded to Eighth Street and Eighth Avenue Northeast to the report of a vehicle fire.

The owner was trying to start the 1999 Honda Accord when the engine became engulfed in flames, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger. The fire was contained to the engine compartment. There were no injuries.
