Incident shuts down 4th Street Southwest

A 40-year-old woman reportedly stabbed a 33-year-old Austin man Tuesday because she was tired of him using drugs and bringing drugs into a residence.

Mower County Dispatch received multiple calls around 11:35 a.m. Tuesday about a male with his shirt off flagging down cars on the 900 block of Fourth Street Southwest, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger.

Officers arrived and spoke to the man, who was bleeding from the back and said he had been stabbed. He was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin and later flown by Mayo One to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Upon further investigation, officers took the 40-year-old woman into custody after she admitted to stabbing the man because she was “tired of his drug use and bringing drugs into the residence.” She is currently being held in Mower County Jail awaiting formal charges.

She is believed to be the victim’s girlfriend, Krueger said.

Officers did recover the alleged knife used to stab the man. There was no condition information for the victim as of Wednesday morning.
