Shirley Janette (Armstrong) Wright, 92

She was born May 7, 1923, and had a happy childhood with her older sister, Helen, and lifelong friend, Jeanne (Mack) Hansen. A 1941 graduate of AHS, Shirley attended Austin Junior (now Riverland) College, and in February 1944 married Stephen Crane Wright, with whom she raised a family of five children. Shirley loved being with family and friends, adored children (25-year nursery school teacher at the First Congregational Church), could knit, carry on a conversation and place a bid in turn at the bridge table (all at the same time!). She cherished her many memories of time at the cabin (Beaver Lake in the early years, and “up north” at Ten Mile later on), happily endured family tent-trailer camping around the country, and was dedicated in service to others at church or at R.O.A.R, which is a division of Cedar Valley Services. Shirley had a generous heart toward others and loved — and was loved by — many. She will be dearly missed.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents George Walter and Hazel (Richards) Armstrong, specially beloved son John, husband Stephen and sister Helen Hocker. She is survived by her daughter Janette (Paul) Jones of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and three sons, George (Grace), Charlie (Suzann) and Phil, all of the Twin Cities. She also will be missed by her 6 grandchildren (and spouses) and 11 great-grandchildren.
