Severe storms sweep region; Tornado reported in Faribault Co.

Much of south-central Minnesota was under a tornado warning for a brief period Sunday night as a severe thunderstorm moved through the area.

The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down in Faribault County.

Meteorologist Shawn Devinny said a few trees were blown down but there were no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage.

Freeborn and Steele counties were under a tornado warning through 8:45 p.m. as the Weather Service warned that flying debris could be dangerous to those caught without shelter and that mobile homes could be damaged or destroyed.

Small hail was also reported in Freeborn County for a short period.
