Senate building drama revives with ‘eviction notice’

ST. PAUL — A spat in the Senate over office space in a new building just won’t go away.

Senate Republicans have refused to move into the new, $90 million facility north of the Capitol that they say was a waste of money. GOP members have stayed put in another adjacent office building they share with the House of Representatives.

An amendment added to a budget bill on the Senate floor Thursday would force them to clear out nearly a third of their current office space to make way for other state staff. Republicans cried foul at the maneuver, viewing it as a Democratic attempt to force them into the new facility.
