Wanted: Card players at the senior center

Published 6:01 am Sunday, March 27, 2016

Trump! Trump! Trump! NO, not that one.

We’re talking about one of the words you will hear, along with hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs during a spirited card game at the Mower County Senior Center.

Every weekday afternoon at the senior center one or more card games are being played including 500, bridge, pinochle and cribbage being the most popular.

Whether you are a beginning player or an old pro we are inviting you to join us. Old friendships can be renewed or new ones made. A schedule of events is included in this article but come early because many players want to play a few practice hands before the scheduled times. This will give you a chance to introduce yourself and observe what’s going on.

A lot of us come early to enjoy a bowl of soup, a sandwich, homemade cake or free freshly popped popcorn. Coffee is available for only 50 cents.

The Austin Recreation Center is only a dream. The Mower County Senior Center recreation center is a reality. Please check the schedule for card playing times. We need you. We want and welcome you. — Ray Schmidt

 Come over for Easter

We had another fun celebration for our St. Patrick’s Day meal. Sorry if you missed it, but you can still join us for an Easter celebration Friday, April 1. We are having a traditional Easter meal of ham for $9.50 or turkey for $8.50. They will come with all the fixings. We will serve you and we will all have a great time. Bring a friend and enjoy the entertainment.

We look forward to seeing you at our many programs at the senior center. Don’t forget our coffee shop where every day you can have homemade soup for $1 and a sandwich for 50 cents. Tuesday we are having hamburger stroganoff for only $2.

A special Thank You to Endres window cleaning for taking care of the senior center.
