Alumni Update: Hayfield’s Nelson and Austin’s Murphy both hitting .400

BASEBALL

Hayfield grad Tyler Nelson hit a two-run homer for Bemidji State University against Concordia-St. Paul March 26. In the doubleheader against Concordia, Nelson went 4-for-8 with three RBIs and a walk.

On the season, Nelson is second on BSU (3-17 overall) with a batting average of .419. He leads the team with three home runs, four doubles, four triples and 16 RBIs. Nelson has an on-base percentage of .444 and he has a fielding percentage of .946.

Austin native Steve Serratore went three-for-three with a double and an RBI in a 11-3 win over Nebraska-Omaha Tuesday.

Serratore is hitting .284 for the Wildcats (12-14 overall) and he has two homers, five doubles and 15 RBIs.

Austin grad Nik Gasner has appeared in two games this season for Iowa Lakes Community College (6-7 overall).

Gasner has pitched 2.1 innings and allowed four erred runs, while striking out four.

Former Lyle-Pacelli standout Jordan Hart went 0-for-4 with two walks and a run in a 13-9 loss and 4-3 loss in a doubleheader against Minnesota-Duluth March 29.

With 17 starts for the Mavericks (10-8 overall), Hart is hitting .296 with one homer, three doubles and eight RBIs. Hart has an on-base percentage of .350 and a fielding percentage of 90.1.

SOFTBALL

Blooming Prairie grad Tricia DeBoer went 2-for-5 with a walk for St. Cloud State University as it swept a doubleheader from Northern State University by scores of 7-4 and 6-2 March 29.

On the season, DeBoer is hitting .302 with seven doubles, one triple and 15 RBIs for the Huskies (19-14 overall). DeBoer has an on-base percentage of .359 and she is 7-for-8 on stolen bases.

Blooming Prairie grad Shelbi Swenson went 1-for-6 for the Bethel University softball team as it split a doubleheader with Gustavus, losing 7-4 and winning 9-4 March 28.

Swenson has started all 16 games for Bethel (6-10 overall) and she’s hitting .178 with two RBIs and an on-base percentage of .260.

Hayfield grad Dani Wagner has played in 23 games this season for the University of Minnesota. Wagner is 0-for-7 with five walks and she has scored seven runs on the season for the Gophers (22-9 overall).

Austin grad Abbey Ball has played in three games for UW-Stout this season. Ball is hitting .375 with one RBI and she has pitched four innings with an ERA of 1.75 and five strikeouts for the Blue Devils (8-6 overall).

Austin grad Danielle Tschann was 1-for-1 with a run scored in a 12-9 win over Williams for the University of St. Thomas March 25.

Tschann has played in 12 games for St. Thomas (11-3 overall) and she’s hitting .276 with one homer, three doubles and nine RBIs.

Austin grad Sydney Murphy went 3-for-4 with four RBIs for UW-La Crosse as it swept Viterbo by scores of 6-2 and 7-0 March 29.

Murphy, who has started 17 games for UW-L (13-4 overall) is hitting .409 with four doubles and 13 RBIs this season.
