The Hayfield girls basketball team picked up its biggest win of the season when it upended Goodhue, which is ranked No. 1 in Class A, by a score of 61-40 in Goodhue Thursday.

The Vikings (13-7 overall, 9-4 HVL) struggled with turnovers when they lost 47-45 to the Wildcats (17-3 overall, 10-2 HVL) Dec. 4, but this time around they controlled the ball and the game.

“We took care of the ball and it shows that our sophomores are growing up,” Hayfield head coach Fred Kindschy said. “I’m very happy with our guard play and we wanted to beat them up on the boards. We definitely did that.”
