The Hayfield girls basketball team edged out Pine Island (11-13 overall, 6-8 HVL) 62-57 on the road Friday.

Three sophomores scored in double figures for the Vikings (15-7 overall, 10-4 HVL) as Carrie Rutledge scored 18 points and Maggie Streightiff had 16 points.

“It was a big win for us. We had to scrap all night,” Hayfield head coach Fred Kindschy said. “We didn’t have Savanna Cordle and we missed her. We kind of got outplayed a little bit and we scrambled back.”
