MANKATO — A year after Minnesota and much of the nation was hit hard by influenza, the virus is having less of an impact on residents throughout the state.

However, infectious disease experts warn that the 2015-2016 flu season isn’t over, so an outbreak could still happen.

Kathleen Frederick of the Mayo Clinic Health System tells The Free Press that she’s not aware of any hospitalizations in the Mankato region. But three people in the area have tested positive for influenza in the past two weeks.

The Minnesota Department of Health’s influenza database lists 92 flu-related hospitalizations statewide through the end of January.

More than 4,300 people were hospitalized with complications from influenza last year in Minnesota.
