Government offices, doors and windows were decorated on Valentine’s Day weekend with an early Valentine’s Day gift.

The Mower County Sheriff’s Office, Austin Police Department, Mower County Correctional staff and Mower County Courthouse received over 100 Valentine’s Day cards from Vision 2020’s Community Pride and Spirit committee, who partnered with various Kids Corners centers, YMCA through a Vision 2020 program.

“It was unexpected and greatly appreciated,” May said. “Everyone liked it.”

The handmade cards were distributed throughout the various offices. Cards were also handed out to seniors at the Mower County Senior Center during a special Valentine’s Day luncheon.

More than 200 cards were designed and created by the children, the press release said.

May said when he received them, it was quite different from the regular mail they usually receive.

“They’re very unique,” May said. “They put a lot of work into them.”
