Chef Jack returns to the senior center

At noon on Wednesday, Feb. 17 the Cedars of Austin presents: Lunch with Chef Jack and Music with Johnny Bird Bringing the Legends to Life.

Enjoy great music from the legendary voices of yesteryear with Johnny Bird, the Man of Many Hats. From Sinatra to Como to Martin, as well as country legends including Robbins, Pride, Jennings and more, the Man of Many hats has a hat for every style.

Lunch is cream of asparagus or chicken and dumpling soup, ham salad croissant and Oreo fluff dessert. There will also be hot cider, coffee and water. There will be a free will donation.

Please make your reservations in advance by stopping by the Mower County Senior Center or calling the front desk at 507-433-2370. Seating is limited the to first 100 people.

At 2 p.m. on Thursday John A. Haymond from the Mower County Historical Society will present The Banana Wars: America’s Forgotten Forays into Central America.

Between 1900 and 1940, the United States was involved in military actions (and invasions) in places like Nicaragua, Haiti, and Guatemala. This presentation will discuss this often overlooked period of American history.

You may not be old now, but if you’re lucky, one day you will be. We look forward to seeing you at our many programs at the Senior Center. Don’t forget our coffee shop where every day you can have homemade soup for $1 and a sandwich for 50 cents. Tuesday we are having tator tot hotdish for only $2.
