Mobility scooter taken by 11-year-old

A mobility scooter was stolen by an 11-year-old male Monday.

Officers responded to The Cedars of Austin around 12:40 a.m. Monday to a report of a missing mobility scooter, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger. The 69-year-old victim had last seen the scooter around noon Sunday. The a four-wheeled, blue scooter with a flag on the back, was taken from the garage at The Cedars, according to the report. The scooter’s estimated cost was $1,500.

Officers contacted the Cedars and watched surveillance video footage and saw three juvenile males riding the scooter in the basement. Officers recognized one of the males and identified the other two, according to the report. Officers placed one of the males, the 11-year-old, at the Olmsted County Detention Center, and placed the other two males with their parents or guardians.

The scooter was found at the 11-year-old’s home and returned to the owner.
