LYLE — Lyle-Pacelli senior basketball player Noah Jiskra wasn’t exactly certain of his future when his family moved from St. Cloud to Lyle three years ago, but the move has paid off for him.

Jiskra recently made his verbal commitment to play basketball at Gustavus Adolphus College and he is planning on going Pre-Med.

Jiskra will receive an academic scholarship at Gustavus as well. Jiskra said it was an adjustment moving from St. Cloud to Lyle, but it worked out for him in the long run.

“It was definitely a change moving from a town of about 60,000 people to a town of 500, but everybody welcomed me and I fit right in with the team,” Jiskra said of the move to Lyle. “I like the small town better than the big town.”

Jiskra surprised even his parents when he wore a Gustavus t-shirt in warm-ups during Saturday’s game against Southland in Pacelli to give a hint of his college choice.

“That was pretty cool,” he said.

Jiskra was looking at nine schools and he made visits to all of them as he pondered over where he was going to go to college.

“This was probably the most stressful decision of my life so far. I wanted to have it done by Christmas, but I didn’t have all the pros and cons laid out. It’s a huge weight off my shoulders,” Jiskra said. “I’m looking forward to a challenge. I”m really working on time management and getting ready for it. I think I’m prepared for it.”

On the court, Jiskra has provided a lift in many areas for the Athletics (11-9 overall). He’s played all five positions at one time or another and he averaged 17.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, two assists and 2.1 steals per game last season.

“Seeing all of the positions on the floor really helped me round my game out,” Jiksra said.

Gustavus, which is 7-10 overall this season, will likely use Jiskra at the shooting guard position.

LP will host Randolph in Lyle 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
