Lyle-Pacelli sophomore Brooke Walter has seen a few of her teammates join the 1,000 point club and it was her turn to reach that milestone for the Athletics. Brooke scored her 1,000th career point early on in LP’s 69-22 win over Hope Lutheran (1-10 overall, 0-8 SEC) in Pacelli Gym Friday.

Brooke, who finished with 12 points, five assists and four steals, scored the milestone hoop on a steal and lay-up that put her team up 23-2 early on.

After joining her teammates Sarah Holtz and Courtney Walter as a career 1,000 point scorer, Brooke was greeted by her older sister Courtney, who had 18 points and three steals Friday.

“I’ve seen what [the other 1,000 point scorers] went through and I’ve seen the community [support.],” Brooke said. “It’s something that I really wanted and it’s something that I really worked for. I knew I was pretty close, I just didn’t know how close. It’s always been on my mind and now I can relax.”

Brooke could’ve easily reached the 1,000 point mark earlier if she had played on a less talented team or if she was more selfish. But as it stands, Brooke does everything the Athletics (11-1 overall, 8-0 SEC) need her to do on the court.

“She’s a kid that’s played a long time and she’s an infectious kid,” LP head coach Justin Morris said. “She works hard, she has a smile on her face and she’s a gracious teammate. She’s given up some of her points for her own teammates. She’s a true point guard and it’s all come pretty natural to her.”
