The 2016 winners of the Austin Public School District Spelling Bee were announced Wednesday.

First- and second-place winners have qualified to advance to the Regional Spelling Bee; third-place is eligible to compete as an alternate in the circumstance that either first- or second-place winner is not able to compete. The Regional Spelling Bee will be in Rochester on Feb. 9, 2016, at 9 a.m. at Southeast Service Cooperative.

First Place: Caden Strampe, I.J. Holton Intermediate School; Second Place: Renata Vaughn, Ellis Middle School; Third Place: Ella Muzik, Ellis Middle School.
