Officers have identified a lead suspect in the robbery that happened last Thursday morning at Ankeny’s Mini Mart No. 4, but are waiting for a formal complaint before making any arrests.

Officers have been in contact with the suspect, and information has been sent to the Mower County Attorney’s Office for review, according to Austin Police Captain Dave McKichan. The suspect has been described as an adult man from Austin.

The man got away with an undisclosed amount of cash after he robbed the Ankeny’s store with a black hunting knife around 8:45 a.m. Thursday.

The employee at the store said a male wearing a white and black camouflage hooded sweatshirt and a red ski mask covering his nose and mouth demanded cash while wielding the knife.

The employee saw he was white after seeing around his eyes through the mask.

The man left with the cash, heading westbound on foot. Nobody was injured.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information can contact law enforcement through the online Tip411 site or by calling 437-9400.
