The Austin boys hockey team finished with a lot of intensity, but it couldn’t finish the job as it lost to Faribault (1-1 overall, 1-1 Big Nine) 2-1 in Riverside Arena Tuesday.

The Packers (0-2 overall, 0-2 Big Nine) went scoreless in the second and third periods, even though Austin out-shot the Falcons 22-8 in the third and had the Packers had a five minute power play in the second period.

“In the third period we had our best period of the year,” Austin head coach Erik LaRock said. “Offensively, we played well. We just couldn’t score. Defensively we had two mistakes that cost us and I think that’s just what happens when you get really aggressive on offense.”

Daniel Bollingberg tied the game at 1-1 on a first period goal that was assisted by Jace Greenman and Brayden Merritt.

The Falcons scored a goal in the second period to take the lead for good.
