The Austin High School’s trap and clay shooting team is giving the public a chance to check out what they do as they raise some funds for the program.

The team will host its third annual team benefit shoot at the Cedar Valley Conservation Club at 9 a.m. on Oct. 24. Breakfast will be available at 8 a.m. and lunch will available at noon.

The benefit will allow members of the public to come out and watch the team shoot or they can try and shoot for themselves.

“Anyone who wants to come out and support the team can see the kids shoot to see what it’s all about,” Austin head coach Gus Maxfield said. “They can also shoot themselves, but they don’t have to participate.”

The trap shooting team holds a fall and spring season, and the state tournament is held in the spring. Maxfield said it’s important for the team to raise funds, because trap shooting can be an expensive sport.

“The biggest issue is it’s quite an expensive sport and it costs quite a bit to keep them shooting,” he said. “We try to do fundraisers for them to keep them shooting.”

The Oct. 24 fundrasier will feature a shooting tournament for four divisions — adults, ladies, juniors (ages 15-17) and sub junior (ages 14 and under).
