An area woman will be performing in Chicago soon.

Rose Creek native Alane Bendtsen will be featured in the role of Rose in The Merlin Players production of the comedy “Bleacher Bums.” The show runs Oct. 30, 31, Nov. 5, 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m., at the Paradise Center for the Arts in Faribault, Minnesota. Written by Joe Mantegna and the Organic Theatre Company, “Bleacher Bums” takes place at Chicago’s Wrigley Field during a Cubs and St. Louis Cardinal baseball game.

Artistic Director Julianna Skluzacek said the cast is excited that the Cubs have made the play off.

“It seems to be a case of art imitating life. You will hear names like Sammy Sosa, Mark McGuire, Kerry Woods and Delino DeShields,” Skluzacek added in a press real ease. “I grew up in a baseball family and I love this show.”

Bentsen is also an avid Twins fan and has enjoyed being in a show about baseball. The cast also includes Amber Boettcher, Tim Fitzgerald, Cody Jensen, Jackson Hemann, and Steve Searl of Owatonna, along with Matt Drenth and Samuel Temple of Faribault and Frank Blomgren of Minneapolis. Local KDHL radio personality Gordy Kosfeld will be the announcer for the game.

To bring the ballpark atmosphere to life, area students have been invited to come and sing the “National Anthem” at the beginning of the play. Also, you’ll hear the cries of “beer here” during intermission in the theater itself and stand for the seventh inning stretch to sing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” The public is invited for an opening night reception on Oct. 30 that will include hot dogs and beer. All performances take place at the Paradise Center for the Arts, 321 Central Avenue in Faribault.
