Letter: Fall book sale was a success

The Friends of the Library Used Book Sale is in the books! It was a great success, the best fall sale ever with $6,069 in proceeds.

We thank the public for their donations of materials, the news media for their coverage — especially the Austin Daily Herald, KAUS,  KAAL, KTTC, and KIMT — and thank you to Hy-Vee and Jim’s Marketplace for promoting this event. This fundraiser would not be successful without Peggy Keener as our chairperson and the many dedicated volunteers who sorted books and worked at the sale, especially Rose McCarthy, Bev Smith, Maye and Kaye Schultz and Ann Bundy. Sara Steinhoff developed the posters, reminders, and bookmarks and scheduled the space and tables. She also took the tables down and moved the remaining boxes. The library staff is always so helpful. A big thank you goes to the patrons of the sale, those who donated materials and those who purchased materials. The Members Only night on Thursday was a door buster. Also, the sale really fosters a sense of community and brings people into the library. The proceeds from the book sale provide funds for projects and programs at the Austin Public Library. Those programs include: author visits, book and computer purchases, Page Turners, and the summer reading program. This program alone receives $3,500 from the Friends of the Library.

All book lovers will be pleased to know that the remaining books received a new life by being sent to Better World Books. Check it out at www.betterworldbooks.com.
