Letter: Abortions are a bigger issue than firearms

Regarding the Oct. 4 Other’s Opinion about placing blame for another mass shooting and the Planned Parenthood cartoon below it:

So it’s OK for Planned Parenthood to kill unborn babies or those born alive during an abortion, harvest and sell their little body parts but it’s not OK to go into a school or college campus and kill people who confess they are Christians? Do those of a liberal persuasion not get the unreasonableness of their position on these matters?

Some want to ban guns. Why not ban the surgeon’s instruments also? It is not the gun or the surgeon’s instrument that kills people. It is the person who wields the gun or the scalpel that kills. Chicago, President Obama’s hometown, has some of the strictest gun control laws in the U.S. and yet it has one of the highest rates of gun related crime. You can’t legislate morality.

I take issue with the aforementioned cartoon that depicts a GOP smear campaign against Planned Parenthood. The facts of the killing of unborn babies and selling their body parts speak for themselves. Our nation kills far more babies through abortion than the 316,545 persons who died by firearms in the US between 2004 and 2013 as stated in the article. Since 1973 over 58 million babies have been aborted, with Planned Parenthood claiming almost 7 million of those deaths since they began doing abortions in 1970. Check out these facts on www.numberofabortions.com.

The problem and the blame lies in the heart and mind of each of us who choose to go our own way and do our own thing instead of turning to God and allowing Him to change us. Until then, we can expect more of the same. The killing will continue.
