The Blooming Prairie football team was one yard away from forcing overtime as it lost 42-40 at Kenyon-Wanamingo Thursday.
The Knights (7-1 overall) held a two score lead early in the fourth quarter, but BP (6-2 overall) stormed back into the game. Anthony Nelson, who had 162 yards of offense and four TDs, had a 3-yard TD run to pull BP within 42-34 with 9:09 left in the game and Lucas Noble had 5 yard TD run to make it a two-point game with 46 seconds left in the game.
However, BP was stopped at the one-yard line as it tried to run in a game-tying two-point conversion.
The Awesome Blossoms racked up 393 yards of offense in the loss.
“It was a good game offensively,” BP head coach Chad Gimbel said. “Defensively we had a lot of missed tackles and that led to our demise.”
BP will open the Section 2A tournament 7 p.m Wednesday.
