It’s October, but summer is having a last hurrah, with record-breaking temperatures in some parts of the state.

Austin’s high of 84 Sunday broke the previous record of 82 set in 1962, according to The National Weather Service.

The average high for Oct. 11 is 61.

Temperatures soared across the state on Sunday, with parts of the state hitting the 90s as southern winds pushed in warm air.

The National Weather Service says record high temperatures were recorded Sunday in Minneapolis and St. Cloud at 85 and 83 degrees, respectively, beating previous records set in 1930.

In west-central Minnesota, Wheaton and Moorhead hit 97, while Appleton, Montevideo and Granite Falls reached at least 93 degrees. Bemidji and Orr in northern Minnesota touched 90, and International Falls — the self-proclaimed Nation’s Icebox — was at 87.

But the summer-like weather is about to end, with highs in Minnesota on Monday ranging from the upper 40s to low 60s.

Austin’s expected high was back to average at 61 on Monday. High temperatures of around 64 are expected through Thursday. Highs should dip into the 50s by Friday and next weekend.

A wind advisory was in effect until 6 p.m. today in Mower County with gusts expected to reach 45 mph.
