Riverland volleyball team beats Western Tech in five

The Riverland Community College volleyball team is off to one of its best starts in recent years and it kept up some of that momentum in Riverland Gym Wednesday.

The Blue Devils beat Western Wisconsin Tech. 25-14, 26-24, 25-27, 18-25, 19-17 in a conference match and it lost to Waldorf JV 25-19, 25-14 in a non-conference match.

Albert Lea grad Kassi Hardies racked up 20 kills on the night for the Blue Devils (3-2 overall, 3-1 MCAC South) and another AL grad, Hope Landsman, added 13 kills in the win over WWT.

“We finally have more of a balanced offense,” RCC head coach Michelle Ihnen said. “Instead of just having one hitter, we have three hitters we can go to and they’re having fun with it.”

RCC’s Hannah Boyer, who is a Janesville-Waldrof-Pemberton grad, was named MCAC South hitter of the week for the past week as she had 40 kills in wins over Anoka-Ramsey and Minnesota West.
