The Austin football team will have to stop a top caliber running back if it wants to pick up its first win at Rochester Mayo 7 p.m. Friday.

The Packers (0-2 overall) will face off against the No. 10 ranked Spartans (2-0 overall), who rode the legs of Greg Henry in a 27-20 win at Rochester Century last week. Mayo blasted Faribault 50-21 in its season opener.

Henry tallied 194 yards and three TDs last week for Mayo.

“They’ve got a nice quarterback, they’re running back is awesome and they block real well,” Austin head coach Brett Vesel said of Mayo. “Defensively, they’re always a tough team. They look real good.”

Austin is still sorting out its roster and some players may be in different spots this week. The Packers are hoping to solidify some spots during the Mayo game.

“We’re still playing around with people to see if they can play in places and we’re moving pieces,” Vesel said. “We’re pretty happy with the defense right now.”

Austin’s offense is still trying to hit its stride. The Packers showed some promise last week in a 28-19 loss to Winona as Jakob Crouch threw for 294 yards and Brandon Edgar ran for 113 yards, but the team is still looking to score more points than it has in its first two contests.

“We’ve got a lot of weapons,” Vesel said. “We’re trying to figure out what our strengths are now with this new squad of guys. We’re still experimenting, but it’s going to come down to execution.”
