Nellie Wanous, 96, passed away on Aug. 28, 2015, at Golden Living East in Rochester, Minnesota.

Nellie was born on July 20, 1919, the daughter of Walter F. and Bernice Bell (Schafer) Jukes in New York Mills, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to William Wanous on Aug. 3, 1940, in Northfield, Minnesota. She attended Brownsdale Schools. Nellie worked for Dr. Thompson and also at the Brownsdale Café, Owatonna Canning Factory and the Hardware Store with her husband. Nellie operated the Dew Drop Inn Root Beer Stand in Brownsdale. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and generously giving many baked goods to her children and grandchildren, canning, fishing and reading. Nellie was a longtime member of Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church. Nellie was a longtime resident of Brownsdale, and her husband owned Wanous Electric and Heating. She and her husband enjoyed many summers at their trailer cabin at Leech Lake. Nellie was a two-time, more than 60 year cancer survivor and a longtime supporter of cancer charities.

Nellie is survived by her daughters: Jane (Dean) Taylor, Adams, Minnesota, and Margaret Tverberg, Hastings, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Wanous; one son-in-law, James Tverberg; three sisters and one brother.

The funeral mass for Nellie Lucille Wanous will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church, 404 West Main Street in Brownsdale with the Rev. Raul Silva celebrating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 302 Market Street in Brownsdale on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015. For more information, visit www.czaplewskifuneralhomes.com.
