Rodney John Fimon, 96, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center.

He was born March 30, 1919, in Chatfield, Minnesota, to Joe and Minnie (Rutz) Fimon, the fourth of 13 children. Rodney grew up and attended school in Spring Valley, Minnesota, where he was a farmer. He married Leota Allen on Nov. 16, 1939, in Waterloo, Iowa. The couple raised two sons. Rodney served his country in the United States Army in WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. After his discharge, he worked at Hormel Foods Corporation for 31 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Rodney and his family vacationed in Lake City, Minnesota. He and Leota enjoyed traveling to Florida where they had a second residence. A lover of dogs, Rodney also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his sons: Ronald Fimon of Ackley, Iowa, and Allen (Nancy) Fimon of Austin; eight grandchildren: Marty Fimon, Robert (Yolanda) Fimon, David (Phylis) Fimon, Renee (David) Henry, Rick (Gayla) Fimon, Michelle Fimon, Michael (Amanda) Fimon, Maraye Fimon; six great-grandchildren: Chanel Gialdini, Bridget Fimon, Michael (Christa) Henry, Alia Fimon, Katelynd Henry, Jadon Fimon; two great-great-grandchildren: David Henry and Jack Fimon; two brothers: Donald (Norma) Fimon of Rochester, Minnesota, and Lester Fimon of Spring Valley, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Minnie Fimon; his wife Leota Fimon in 2003; his sisters: Minnie, Lucille, Adeline, Elaine, Jeannette, Marjorie, and an infant sister at birth; his brothers: Joseph, Kenneth, and an infant brother at birth.
