Richard “Dick” James Keating, 85, of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Dick was born in St. Paul on April 20, 1930, to Melba Keating. He attended Catholic school in Austin and graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1948. After graduation, he started his 42-year career at Hormel Foods in Austin, Minnesota. He spent most of his time at Hormel working in the Pipe Shop as a pipefitter, steamfitter and master plumber. Dick served four years in the United States Marine Corp from 1950 to 1954 and was also a member of the Army National Guard for 22 years. Dick married Helen Wilson on Feb. 3, 1951, at St. Augustine Church in Austin, Minnesota. After retiring from Hormel Foods he continued his education by attending Austin Community College and Winona State University.

Dick was a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Austin American Legion Post No. 91. He loved attending local sporting events. Dick was a founding member of the Austin Pistol Club. He enjoyed hunting and attending community plays. Dick also served two terms on the St. Augustine School Board and was active in the Pacelli High School Booster Club.

Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen; sons: Dan (Mary) Keating of Mayville, North Dakota, Russell (Mary) Keating of Rochester, Minnesota, Jerry (Sherry) Keating of Lonsdale, Minnesota; daughter, Laura Keating of Rochester, Minnesota; grandchildren: Craig, Mike, Jason (Amanda), Jennifer Keating, Nathan (Deb Franzen) Keating, Erica (Ryan) Kalmes; great-grandchildren: Evelyn Keating and Cora Keating.

Dick is preceded in death by his mother.

A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015, at Mayer Funeral Home and again an hour prior to the mass on Wednesday. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with the Austin American Legion Post No. 91 providing Military Gravesite Rites. Online Condolences-www.mayerfh.com.
