Letter: Reducing waste stream is critical

I support single-sort recycling. We should also all work together to ensure that replacement jobs are found in the community for the Cedar Valley workers.  That is an important goal. It is not an either/or choice. We can have both.

Our community is investing heavily in the future of our county and its land and people with environmental programming at the Nature Center, biking and walking trails, healthy-living initiatives, and clean water management. We all know that reducing our waste stream is a critical element in a healthier planet and community, and that single-sort works to increase recycling. We need to pay the upfront cost of managing our garbage correctly, or we are merely putting off the costs of that garbage on to future generations. If we are serious about improving the quality of life in our community for everyone, we need to think about the future as well as the present.
