Members of Thrivent Financial are forming a Thrivent Action Team in Austin for the second annual Oktoberfest and are looking for community volunteers to join.

Oktoberfest will be Sept. 27 at Veteran’s Pavillion. Volunteers don’t have to be a member of Thrivent.

The proceeds of the annual event benefit Lyle Area Cancer. The Thrivent Action Team lead by Cindy Ricke is looking for volunteers to join the chili cook-off and hot dog eating contest. Individuals or a group can provide their famous chili to be judged by the public. Anyone over age 16 is invited to participate in the hot dog eating contest. Rules and more information are provided at the time of registration in the office of Kathy Wichmann at 1211 Fourth St. NW, or by calling 507-437-6262, or through email at chantel.bye@thrivent.com. Registrations should be completed by Sept. 10.

This event is led by a member of Thrivent Financial, which is served by Kathy Wichmann. Thrivent Action Teams are an easy way Thrivent members can quickly identify a need in their community, receive resources and put a plan together to take action on causes they care about. It’s a way members can fulfill Thrivent’s purpose, which is to serve members and society by guiding both to be wise with money and live generously.

“We had so much fun last year,” Cindy Ricke, a volunteer with Thrivent Financial, said in a press release. “We’re proud to be able to serve our community and are grateful for Thrivent’s support.”

Thrivent Action Teams also participate in their membership through fundraisers, one-time service activities or educational events. To learn more about Thrivent Action Teams, visit Thrivent.com/actionteam.
