Jared Solberg was looking to get back to Minnesota, and he was able to make his return thanks to the Austin Park and Recreation Department.

Solberg, a native of Silver Bay, Minnesota, had spent the last four years in Williston, North Dakota, working as a recreation coordinator for two years and a recreation superintendent for two years. In April, he began work as the recreation supervisor in Austin, replacing Val Pitzen.

“My wife and I wanted to get back to Minnesota, so I applied for this job and I got hired,” Solberg said.

“I love Minnesota and I always wanted to get back.”

Solberg has had plenty to do as he came during the height of recreation season in Austin. He’s got his hands full, but he also has some ideas brewing in his head.

“Right now I’m just stepping in being brand new. I would like to bring in some ideas as I further my career at Austin Park and Recreation. I do have some ideas and I’d like to bring them to the table eventually,” Solberg said. “Summers are busy, but I’m learning a lot every day and I’m doing the best I can every day. The farther along I am, the more I’ll learn.”

Solberg has liked what he’s seen out of the town of Austin so far as he’s had some locals step up and volunteer their services.

“In the short amount of time I’ve been here, I’ve noticed how well the community works together,” he said. “It’s a good, tight community.”
