The Blue Sox (6-13 overall) started the top of the night inning on a strong note when Nestor Jimenez singled, but Hounds’ pitcher Zach Schara made a diving catch on a bunt attempt and he thew to first base to turn the double play and end the Blue Sox’s threat. The Blue Sox had scored four runs in the eighth after Quinn Yocom and Kyal Williams each had an RBI.

Leopold had his daughter Elliana throw out the first pitch before the game. It meant a lot because, Elliana, who is two-years old, is recovering from neuroblastoma, a form of cancer. Elliana has been able to watch her dad play for the first time this summer and Leopold was thrilled to have her throw the first pitch to him to start the game.

“She loves coming down to the park and she asks me all of the time to come out on the field. I think she really liked it when she got to go out there and throw the first pitch,” Leopold said. “It’s pretty nice that John [Frein] and Matt [Cano] have been working on this since February. It’s been real nice for them to have my back and have my family’s back through this whole thing.

Leopold also had two doubles and an RBI at the plate to help vault the Hounds (12-10 overall) to victory over their crosstown rivals.

“It’s a big rivalry and everybody wants to win it. It’s nice to come out on top because we’re going to have a lot of close games coming up,” he said.
