The Austin Post 91 Legion baseball team lost its first home game of the season when it lost 6-3 to Waseca in Marcusen Park Thursday.

Trailing 5-3, Austin (23-4 overall) had runners on first and second with one out in the sixth and it had runners on first and second with no outs in the fifth and it couldn’t score a run in either inning. Waseca added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.

Post 91 has the top seed in the District locked up, but the team is still hoping to finish the regular season strong.

“It’s a little wake up call that we need to show up and play ball every day,” Austin co-head coach Andy Swank said. “No matter what seed a team is, they’re a good baseball team and you’ve got to play good baseball game to beat them.”

Waseca scored four runs in the first two innings to take a 4-1 lead and Post 91 had to play catch-up the rest of the way. Austin scored two runs in the fourth to make it 5-3 when Ethan Horstmann had a two-out RBI double and Riley Olson blooped an RBI single.

“You don’t ever want to lose a baseball game, but I give them credit. Their pitcher threw a great game, he threw both sides of the plate and he kept us off balanced,” Swank said. “They haven’t won a ton of games, but at the same time they’ve put up some good games against some good teams.”
