A 20-year-old Austin man was cited with two counts of trespassing Saturday morning after he drunkenly walked into at least two homes uninvited in northwest Austin.

Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger said homeowners at the 1900 block of Sixth Avenue Northwest reported the suspect allegedly walked through their home at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday and stopped in the kitchen before he walked out.

Officers caught the man nearby a short time after and took him to the Mower County jail pending formal charges. Krueger said the man tested over the legal blood-alcohol content limit while at jail.

Police received another call after the suspect was taken to jail from a homeowner in the same northwest Austin neighborhood, who said the man went inside a home and into a bedroom twice, about 20 minutes apart.

Krueger urged residents in light of several recent burglaries and trespassing cases to stop leaving their homes unlocked at night.

“People need to lock their doors,” he said. “That’s all there is to it.”
