ST. PAUL — Dominiq Bouska of GMLOKS was equal to the task at the Class A state discus finals in Hamline University Saturday.

Bouska used a throw of 140 feet, 7 inches to get to the finals and he made his final throw of the day count as he hit the 146-1 mark to finish in seventh place in his first ever appearance at the state meet.

Bouska had just been passed by Wyatt Shirrick of Red Lake County, who threw a 143-4 on his final throw and he was able to respond to get back into seventh place.

“I asked my coach what place I was in and she said to just do it for myself,” Bouska said. “I just did what I do best and I just threw.”

Bouska hit a stretch where he had a couple of throws that were under 130 feet, but he was able to bounce back.

“When I wasn’t throwing well I was getting a little more nervous,” Bouska said. “It felt great to get up there [on the podium].”

Hayfield’s Cody Carpentier didn’t make the finals as he fouled on all three of his preliminary throws.

Mitchell Weber of St. Clair won the meet with a throw of 169-10.
