The Austin Rotary Club recognized three local leaders for contributions to the community on Monday.

The club held its annual President’s Luncheon at the Holiday Inn Conference Center Monday.

The mission of Rotary International is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional and community leaders.

—Alice Holst was the recipient of the Community Service Award. A long-time member of the Austin Rotary Club, Holst has also been very active on and off the stage with Northwestern Singers, Summerset Theatre, Matchbox Children’s Theatre, Historic Paramount Theatre, and the Austin ArtWorks Festival. She has served in many areas for many years at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Holst has also shown her commitment towards her alma mater as she was a member of the Riverland Community College Foundation board of directors for many years.  She was also part of the Austin banking industry for over 45 years and currently works at the Development Corporation of Austin.

—Nitaya Jandragholica received the Government Award. Jandragholica is a court interpreter and translator at the Mower County Jail and Justice Center. She has interpreted for people from Spain, Mexico, El Salvador, Columbia, Cuba, Venezuela, Chile and Brazil, among others. She is also a very active volunteer for several organizations in the community.

—Catherine Haslag received the Educator Award. She is active in the Science Fair Mentor Program. She has shared her passion for science with more than 100 children from Neveln and Sumner and assisted them in presenting a science fair project. Through her support the students have learned about completing a project from start to finish and have grown self-confidence through enhanced communication skills.
