It was senior night and it may have been the final softball game at Todd Park for four Austin seniors Tuesday.

“It hasn’t really sunk in yet” said Kenzi Steinbrink, the only senior pitcher on the team, who pitched the first five innings for Austin. Steinbrink, Sydney Murphy, Keisha Berg and Jackie Bruen have been a part of the program for several years and they are seeing their careers come to a close.

“It was bittersweet” said Murphy, who has been a member of the varsity team since her freshman year.

The seniors have helped Austin head coach Al Eckman immensely in his first season back with the Packers.

“Those four are unbelievable to coach. They are so good, they accept everything, and they work hard. I can’t say enough about those four.” Eckman said of the seniors.

Murphy is Austin’s leading hitter this season and is playing in the Minnesota High School All Star Series this summer.

The Packers lost the game 6-5 to Owatonna whom they had previously lost to 17-5 April 24.
