Letter: Black and White Ball dances to another success

This past Friday, April 24, the IBI Data Relay for Life team and the Holiday Inn Austin co-sponsored the sixth annual Black and White Ball. By the time the music stopped we’d raised $9,500 for Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society in one night! This year’s ball was dedicated to Mike Simmons, a longtime team member and inspiration to each of us who lost his valiant fight against cancer but never lost his smile. You are missed Mike.

We’d like to thank the numerous Mower County businesses and individuals that donated items for the silent auction, live auction and door prizes. In fact, we’d like to thank them each by name here, but luckily there are too many — the full list can be seen on our page at www.kickcancernight.com.

DJ Alan Reed kept the fun going with his masterful entertainment, auctioneering and the ever popular and ridiculous photo booth.

The Austin High School Jazz Band, led by the always enthusiastic Brad Mariska, outdid themselves this year; the vocal addition was breathtaking. What a marvelous treasure Austin has in this music program and the generous students who donate their time and talents.

Did I mention all the giving people that attended? Their generosity was fantastic and deeply appreciated. Your warm hearts and kind smiles make fighting cancer not only possible, but a true honor.

To everyone who volunteered, donated and attended, please accept our heart-felt thank you.
