Larry Burton Rector, 83, of Lyle, Minnesota, died Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Golden Living Center-Rochester West.

He was born April 10, 1932, in Rapidan, Minnesota, to Ralph and Lulu (Wells) Rector. Larry grew up in Garden City where he attended school. On Aug. 21, 1965, he married Carol Mae Hafermann in Lydia, Minnesota. The couple raised two sons. Larry and Carol lived in Dodge Center until 1968, moving to Austin where they lived until 1971 before moving to the farm in Lyle. Over the years Larry farmed, hauled milk, worked construction, and drove semi. He hauled pipe for Elk River and brought and hauled pigs for the Dillavous. He served as business manager for the local construction union. An associate member of the Lyle American Legion, Larry enjoyed working on farm machinery. He loved the work of the farm and the outdoors. For the last 25 years of his career, Larry worked at the Community College in Austin in the Buildings and Grounds department, retiring in 1994. In his free time, Larry enjoyed watching westerns, rodeos, and boxing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Larry is survived by his wife Carol of Lyle, Minnesota; his sons: Daniel (Amy) Rector and Jack (Sheri) Rector, both of Rochester, Minnesota; his grandchildren: Emma and Adam; and two brothers: Charles Rector of Austin and Allen (Juanita) Rector of Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Lulu Rector; his brother Jack Rector; his sister Dorothy (Charles) Bartholomew; and his sister-in-law Dorothy Rector.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2015, at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church in Lyle with the Rev. Scott Meyer officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2015, at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Six Mile Grove Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
