Helen M. Reed, 95, a longtime Spring Valley, Minnesota, resident, died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the Spring Valley Care Center.

Helen was born Oct. 10, 1919, in Peterson, Minnesota, the daughter of Hans and Diantha (Angle) Wilson. On Aug. 17, 1936, she was married to Barney Reed in Cresco, Iowa. In 1955, Helen and Barney moved from Leroy, Minnesota, to Sprig Valley where they resided for the rest of their years. Helen had various employments throughout the years, but one occupation most people would remember her by is “The Apple Lady.” Every fall, Helen managed the Country Market, selling apples and other fall produce. Following her retirement she worked at the Spring Valley Public Library. Helen and Barney enjoyed 61 years of marriage. In her later years she enjoyed reading, crocheting rugs, gardening, baking and puzzles.

Helen is survived by her children: Kenneth (Marie) Reed of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Wayne Reed of LaCrescent, Minnesota, Sherry (Dale) Nelson of Rose Creek, Minnesota, Carol (David) Olson of Inver Grove, Minnesota, Glenda (Leslie) Hillman of Austin, Minnesota, and Candy (Steve) Curran of Stewartville, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and a half-sister, Lorraine Blade of Rochester, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Barney; two daughters-in-law: Verna Reed and Gloria Reed; son-in-law, John Snyder; great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Schroader; and 13 half-siblings.

The funeral will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wykoff with the Rev. Michael Harman officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Valley Cemetery.
