Austin baseball team falls short at Northfield

DUNDAS — The No. 8 seeded Austin baseball team couldn’t come through with any scoring chances as it lost 3-0 at No. 1 Northfield in a Section 1AAA tournament game in Dundas Saturday.

The Packers (8-12 overall) stranded seven runners on base and the had two runners thrown out on the base paths. The Raiders took a 1-0 lead in the first on an unearned run and they used back-to-back doubles to go up 3-0 in the fifth inning.

“We know coming into these games that you’re not going to have those high run type games,” Austin head coach Chris Gogolewski said. “They had the key hits and we left a couple of guys in scoring position. It would’ve been nice if the tables would’ve been switched and we would’ve had a couple of runs.”

Jake Reinartz allowed just three hits and two earned runs to go with his seven strikeouts for Austin.

The Packers will now play an elimination game against Farmington in Dundas 11 a.m. Monday.
