ST. PAUL — Gov. Mark Dayton and House Speaker Kurt Daudt are beginning their search for a solution to Minnesota’s latest budget impasse.

The Democratic governor and Republican legislative leader were set to meet Tuesday after Dayton vetoed three budget bills last week. They need to find a fix to avoid another partial government shutdown.

Dayton struck down bills covering public school funding, agriculture and natural resources programs and economic development programs. He considered the school spending too meager and took issue with some major policy changes in the other two.

Lawmakers have until July 1 to pass replacement bills or some state agencies would go dark. Dayton says he wants an agreement in place before calling a special session.
