The Austin softball hit a speed bump as they pursued their fourth straight win in Todd Park Tuesday.

The Packers allowed a big sixth inning rally as they lost 6-4 to Red Wing.

The Wingers (3-6 overall) started their breakthrough when Molly Goranson singled in two runs to pull Red Wing within 4-3 with no outs. The Wingers went on to add three unearned runs in the same frame after the Packers (5-9 overall) committed an error.

“We still need to play better. We were here, but we didn’t really do the things we need to keep doing,” Austin head coach Al Eckmann said. “I told them just now that it starts with the pre-game warm up. You can’t just talk about everything else but softball when you’re warming up for a softball game. There’s something to be learned there and they’re a young bunch of kids.”

The Packers had runners on second and third with two outs in the bottom of the seventh when Bailee Brooks hit a line drive to center field. RW’s center fielder made a running catch to end the game. Austin scattered eight hits in the loss, but it couldn’t put together a big rally.

“We had plenty of opportunities, we just didn’t keep it going,” Eckmann said
