Learn the basics of the current Medicare program

If you are turning 65 or going on Medicare, here is an opportunity for you to get the information you need.

At 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, we are hosting a Medicare Basics The ABCD’s class. This class will cover the parts of Medicare, hospital, medical and drug options; including original/ traditional Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare advantage plans, Part D prescription drug coverage and preventive benefits.

Also included is information about Medicare savings programs, drug assistance, preventing fraud, waste and abuse, and other resources to help you make informed decisions.

At 2 p.m. on Thursday, at the Senior Center, The Cedars is hosting an open house featuring Birdland Productions Total Entertainment and Chef Jack’s spring appetizers and drinks.

Bringing the Legends to Life. Enjoy great music from the legendary voices of yesteryear with Jonny Bird, the Man of Many Hats. From Sinatra to Como to Martin, as well as country legends including Robbins, Pride, Jennings and more, the Man of Many hats has a hat for every style. This is Free and open to the public.

Friday we have the pleasure of hosting Tony Oliva. He was a three-time American League batting champion, five-time hit leader, and 1964 AL Rookie of the Year. Playing his entire 15-year baseball career for the Minnesota Twins (1962-1976), the left-handed batting/right-handed throwing Oliva was an eight-time All-Star and strong-armed Gold Glove fielder. He was arguably the best player in the American League from 1964 to 1971.

Tony is coming down to spend the day in Austin. He will be at the Senior Center from 1 to 2:30 p.m. You are invited to come and get pictures, autographs and listen to Tony reminisce about the old days. He will answer any questions you might have about playing baseball. This is your chance to meet a real celebrity. We are very excited he will be here, I’m sure you are too.

We look forward to seeing you at our many programs at the Senior Center. Don’t forget our coffee shop where every day you can have homemade soup for $1 and a sandwich for 50 cents. Tuesday we are having tuna noodle hotdish for only $2.
