John L. Capp, 93, of Austin, died Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Sacred Heart Care Center.

John was born March 23, 1921, in Austin to John J. and Mary (Sloan) Capp. He was baptized, made his first communion, and was confirmed at St. Augustine Catholic Church. John went to Columbus grade school and graduated from St. Augustine High School.

John joined the United States Navy on June 9, 1942, and was honorably discharged in 1945 as Yeoman 2nd Class. On March 26, 1945, he married Agnes Terese Paczkowski at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Brooklyn, New York. The couple moved to Austin shortly after being married where John worked for the Hormel Foods Corp. from 1947 until he retired.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes of Austin; daughter, Mary (Fred) Manuel of Detroit Lakes; son, Thomas J. Capp of Austin; nine grandchildren: Jeffrey, Steven, Julie, Elizabeth, Melissa, John D., Tennille, Josh, and Summer; 14 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward Capp; sisters: Josephine Meakins, and Evalyn Magnuson; son, Steven Jon Capp.

A memorial mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Friday, April 10, at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 5-7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Military rites will be by American Legion Post No. 91 and VFW Post No. 1216. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com.
