Two of the Arc Mower County’s biggest fundraisers of the year netted about $21,000 for the community group.

The Arc raised about $15,000 Sunday through its annual Taste of Mower County fundraiser and it raised about $6,000 through its recently completed rose sale.

“We are very impressed with the support that we got to get that kind of money,” Program Director Jamey Helgeson said.

About 264 people attended the fifth Taste of Mower at the Holiday Inn Conference Center Sunday to taste food from nine chefs — three home chefs and six restaurant/professional chefs. Apollo Liquor hosted a wine tasting. There was also live and silent auctions.

The Cedar River Strings provided entertainment, and the Holiday Inn donated their conference center space for the event. The Taste of Mower is The Arc’s largest annual fundraiser.

All the money raised goes toward funding programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, special olympics programs, to services to help people live independently, and to fund workshops and training sessions for families.

The rose sale sold 460 sets of a dozen roses.

The Arc has more fundraisers coming up in the next few months, including a fudge sale starting in May, a Dine to Donate event at Applebees in August, and a belgian waffle meal in October.
